Nourishing Minds, Feeding the Future School-Feeding Project
We are deeply committed to alleviating hunger among school-aged children in the rural communities surrounding Monrovia. Through a ten-month initiative, we address the urgent issue of child hunger, which hinders both the health and educational progress of disadvantaged youth. Despite Liberia's rich soils and favorable climate for agriculture, the country faces persistent food insecurity driven by widespread poverty and structural inefficiencies in its agricultural sector. According to the latest food security assessment, approximately 18% of Liberian households are classified as moderately to severely food insecure. Our project is designed to counter these challenges by ensuring that schoolchildren receive daily nutritious meals, supporting both their academic success and healthy development into adulthood. Partnering with local schools, communities, and donors, we provide balanced meals to two thousand students across 14 schools in ten slum and rural areas throughout Liberia. Our team carefully plans a weekly menu, serving meals such as rice, beans, fish, chicken, cream of wheat, bread, and milk to meet the nutritional needs of children aged 5 to 15. This investment in child nutrition is crucial for unlocking students’ potential, empowering them to thrive academically, and laying the foundation for them to grow into active, contributing members of society.
October 2024
Passionate Hands Give Back Inc. launched the "Support Kids with Autism and Down Syndrome in Liberia" project.
This project addresses the severe marginalization faced by children with autism and Down syndrome in Liberia. These children are often stigmatized, isolated, and labeled as "witches" by their communities and even their families. They are frequently denied access to education and medical care, trapped in a cycle of exclusion. To combat these challenges, the project aims to establish a safe and nurturing home tailored to their needs, providing holistic care that includes medical treatment, specialized education, therapy, and support.
In Liberia, children with autism and Down syndrome are among the most vulnerable and marginalized members of society. Due to widespread misconceptions about their conditions, they are often rejected by schools and isolated within their communities. Many face discrimination, are labeled as "witches," and are treated as outcasts, even by their own families. This project seeks to address these injustices by creating a safe and inclusive space where these children can thrive. The planned home will provide specialized services to help them overcome societal stigmas, access essential medical care, and receive an education that nurtures their potential.
The goal of this project is to build a comprehensive care facility for children with autism and Down syndrome in Liberia. This home will serve as a haven where they can grow and learn in a supportive and inclusive environment. By offering specialized education, therapy, and medical care, the project aims to empower these children, enabling them to overcome barriers and lead fulfilling lives.
The long-term impact of this initiative will be transformative for both the children it serves and the broader Liberian community. By improving the quality of life for these children and helping them reach their full potential, the project will challenge deep-rooted stigmas and misconceptions about disabilities. It will foster greater societal acceptance and inclusion, paving the way for a more equitable future for all children in Liberia.
